Ariacarta

Ariacarta was born in 2020 from an idea of Francesca Belfiore, architect, inspired by the desire to make recycling a creative opportunity. It is an ecological bookbinding and paper laboratory: it creates creations in recycled paper and produces hand-made paper and papier-mâché from recycled paper.

Eco-sustainability

Some materials we get rid of have all the characteristics to have a second and even a third life. In the case of paper, the recycling process is fundamental: the more paper is reused, the fewer trees are felled. We know very well the effects of deforestation on our ecosystem and if we add to this how much energy and water are needed to transform virgin cellulose into paper, we can only understand that paper waste must be a reusable resource.

Modern ancient techniques

Ariacarta uses very ancient binding techniques for its work, such as Coptic binding, which dates back to the 1st century AD. All Ariacarta notebooks and notebooks are unique pieces bound by hand, without the use of industrial machinery. Even the smallest processing waste is also recycled to produce new paper, handcrafted on a loom.

Working in a traditional way, avoiding energy consumption and waste, is the way in which Ariacarta feels in line with the objectives for sustainable development: ecology, after all, is the most intelligent form of modernity that we can adopt.
